Rufus Daryll Terwilliger, 86, of Brookville, PA, passed away during the night of Sunday, October 10, 2021, while a patient at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital.
He was born on November 17, 1934, to the late Homer John and Mildred (Bortz) Terwilliger in Brookville.
Rufus worked for many years as a caretaker and grave digger at the Brookville Cemetery, which his family has maintained for decades.
Rufus was married to Evelyn Miller; Evelyn preceded him in passing.
Rufus enjoyed watching westerns and wrestling.
He loved his great nephews and enjoyed the outdoors, especially while hunting.
Rufus never had any children of his own but loved all his nieces and nephews, he and his niece, Mary Ellen, helped to raise their niece Heather Reed and their nephew Frank Mills.
Rufus is survived by two brothers: Bill Terwilliger and “Bun” Terwilliger.
In addition to his parents and wife, Rufus was preceded in passing by six siblings: Mary, Bob, Tom, Chuck, Clee, and Mick.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, October 15, 2021, also at the funeral home beginning at 10:00am and officiated by Pastor Chuck Jack.
Interment will take place at the Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, Jefferson Co., PA.
