Ruth Marie LaFord, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Mulberry Square in Punxsutawney.
Ruth was born on April 17, 1932 in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Thomas Mervin and Zora Helen (Reams) Horner.
On March 17, 1959 she married Charles Eugene LaFord II. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1967. She was a member of the Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ in Punxsutawney.
Ruth was a caring, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She took great pride in working as a housekeeper for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed doing puzzle books and playing dominoes especially the “Chicken” game.
She is survived by her son, Charles Eugene LaFord III and wife Carol of Valier; her step-granddaughter, Breanna Marie Kelsey; two sisters, C. Jane Horner of Punxsutawney; and Shirley Wright of Rochester Mills; one brother, Joseph E. Horner and wife Bernadette of Punxsutawney; one brother-in-law, Joseph Bell of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four sisters, Maeretta Bell; Avanell Horner; Bessie Whitesell; and Elva Curry.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the funeral home and officiated by Elder Tom Hoeh.
Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to Charles LaFord III, 802 Valier Drive, Valier, PA 15780; or to the donor’s choice.
