National Notebook Day, celebrated annually on the third Thursday in May, was founded by a notebook company in 2016 to celebrate the practice of writing on paper.
The holiday was first inaugurated in 2016 by custom notebook company May Designs, which said in a press release that it wanted to celebrate bound paper notebooks as “a refreshing holdout from another generation.”
