Seven, Including Young Girl, Injured in I-80 Crash in Sandy Township

SANDY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A seven-year-old girl was transported by helicopter and six other people were transported by ambulance following a crash in Sandy Township early Sunday morning.

According to police, around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, December 23, 41-year-old Dovud Sharif of Elgin, IL, was operating a 2007 Volvo truck, following a 2004 Infiniti FX35 driven by 47-year-old Agnes F. Samukai-Mulbah of Worcester, MA, traveling west on Interstate 80 near the 100.6 mile marker in Sandy Township, Clearfield County.

Police say Samukai-Mulbah began to slow down, for an unknown reason, in the right lane of travel, and Sharif was unable to slow down in time. Sharif’s vehicle then struck Samukai-Mulbah’s vehicle from behind, causing Samukai-Mulbah’s vehicle to exit the roadway to the north and strike a guide rail with its passenger side.

According to police, Samukai-Mulbah’s vehicle then bounced off the guide rail and crossed both westbound lanes of travel and struck the guide rail on the south side of the roadway with its driver’s side. It then continued to travel west against the guide rail before coming to a final rest facing west on the south side of the roadway against the guide rail.

Sharif was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Samukai-Mulbah and one of her passengers, 41-year-old Edwin Mulbah of Worcester, MA, were wearing seatbelts.

Five other passengers in Samukai-Mulbah’s vehicle, 26-year-old Romeo J. Passewe of Worcester, MA, 18-year-old Victoria K. Doe of Worcester, MA, two 7-year-old female juveniles, and a 5-year-old male juvenile, were not wearing seatbelts.

One of the 7-year-old female juvenile passengers was taken to UPMC Pittsburgh by STAT MedEvac for injuries of unknown severity.

Samukai-Mulbah, Edwin Mulbah, Passewe, Doe, and the other two juvenile passengers were all transported to Penn Highland DuBois by DuBois EMS Ambulance Service for possible injuries.

Sharif’s vehicle sustained disabling damage to the front end.

Samukai-Mulbah’s vehicle sustained disabling damage to the rear, as well as minor damage to both sides of the vehicle.

Sharif was cited with a traffic violation.
