Sexually Violent Predator Found Guilty of Failing to Register Under Megan’s Law

INDIANA CO., Pa. — District Attorney Robert Manzi announced on Wednesday afternoon that defendant Robert Adams, 60, was found guilty after a jury trial of failing to properly register with Megan’s Law.

Adams, of Home, Indiana County, was convicted in 2019 of Indecent Assault and was later designated by the Court of Common Pleas as a sexually violent predator.

Due to that designation, Adams is required to register with the Pennsylvania State Police four times a year with a correct address and other pertinent information. The Pennsylvania State Police are then required to notify any community members that a sexually violent predator is living nearby for their protection.

In November, 2020, members of the Pennsylvania State Police completed the quarterly registration with Adams. Adams provided an address as part of that registration. Members of the Pennsylvania State Police conducted their community notification process and determined that Adams was not living at the address he provided.

In the course of the investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police determined that Adams was living at a different property where children resided. It was a condition of his parole that Adams was not to have contact with any children under the age of 18 years old.

Assistant District Attorney Tony Sottile represented the Commonwealth in this prosecution.

“This defendant is a sexually violent predator and the law placed strict requirements on him for a reason. We deserve to live in a safe community. The registration and notification process helps alert neighbors so we can protect our families” said Manzi. “When the defendant tried to circumvent those protections, it is the hard work of the Pennsylvania State Police and ADA Sottile that is holding Adams to account for his actions.”

The Court has ordered that a pre-sentence report be completed prior to sentencing.

Sentencing is scheduled before the Honorable Judge Thomas M. Bianco on January 19, 2024 at 8:30 a.m.
