Shirley Louise Challingsworth, age 85, of Dr’s Lane, Penfield, PA, died at home on December 27, 2021, after a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late Alfred and Veronica (Fox) Johnson, she was born on April 5, 1936 in DuBois, PA.
On June 15, 1968 she married James E. Challingsworth, Jr., who predeceased her on February 25, 2014.
Besides her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by: a son, Allan “Herky” Overturf and a brother, Lavern Johnson.
Shirley is survived by: four children, Edward W. Overturf of Loundon, TN, Lori Lynn Overturf of Weedville, Richard (Linda) Challingsworth of Weedville and Debra Challingsworth of Weedville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, William (Roberta) Johnson of Rhode Island.
Shirley had worked with Stackpole Carbon and retired from Brockway Glass after many years.
She was a member of the Weedville Wesleyan Church, where she was very active, and lived most of her life in Bennetts Valley.
Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield.
There will be no public services.
Interment will take place in the Morningside Cemetery of DuBois.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Bennetts Valley Ambulance (PO Box 25, Penfield, PA) or the Penn Highland Community Nurses – Hospice.
