Slippery Road Conditions Lead to One-Vehicle Crash in Brookville

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Police say slippery road conditions from a snow squall were to blame for a crash that occurred on Interstate 80 in Brookville Borough late Friday afternoon.

According to police, around 4:54 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 39-year-old Michael D. Weiss, of New York, N.Y., was operating a 2018 Ford Escape, traveling east on Interstate 80 near mile marker 78, in Brookville, Jefferson County, when he encountered extremely slippery road conditions from a snow squall.

According to police, the conditions caused the vehicle to exit off the north side of the roadway while Weiss was applying the brake. The vehicle then struck an embankment off the north side of the road, came off the embankment and slid back across the roadway with its right front tearing off the right from the axle and coming to a final rest off the south side of the road, facing southeast.

Weiss and his adult passenger, 41-year-old Amy Thirjung, of New York, N.Y., were both wearing seat belts, and a 4-year-old female was secured in a booster seat. No injuries were reported.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage to the right front and was towed from the scene by McPherson Towing.

Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.
