Laurel Eye Clinic Employee Receives Nomination for National Award

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Refractive Surgery Coordinator, Sherri McMahan, at Laurel Eye Clinic in Brookville was recently nominated for a Patient Choice Award through The American Board of Opticianry & National Lens Examiners organization.

The American Board of Opticianry & National Contact Lens Examiners (ABO-NCLE) is the largest and most prestigious Opticians’ certification organization in the world, recognizing individuals whose Opticianry skills and knowledge meet predetermined standards of excellence.

Sherri helped fit a 67 year-old patient with a specialty contact lens called a Scleral Lens which gave him vision for the first time in many years after he damaged his cornea at the age of 3.

The Patient was so impacted by Sherri’s help that he felt compelled to share his story with the National Contact Lens Examiners and submitted a video to their website about what his visual impact was by being fit with the Scleral Lens.

The Scleral contact lens is used for medically necessary diagnosis’ and for this particular patient’s condition he had a central corneal opacity of his left eye and was not able to see out of that eye for many, many years.

With the assistance of Sherri and the Laurel Eye Clinic the patient now has significantly improved vision. He is now able to drive, he has his depth perception back, and his quality of life has improved significantly.

“I already won when he was given the gift of greatly improved sight and his quality of life improved. I was simply just doing my job and felt so blessed that the patient thought of me enough to nominate me for the award.”, stated Sherri when asked about the prestigious nomination.

If chosen as the winner Sherri will receive a trip to the National Convention, a cash award and get the opportunity to share the patient’s story at the National Convention.
