There are lots of great things to discover in the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors region.

We continue our series of great things to see and do in each of the 5 counties that make up Pennsylvania’s Great Outdoors region and Cook Forest State Park. Here is a list of 10 great things to do in Jefferson County.

A Great Place to Explore…

Scripture Rocks Heritage Park near Brookville features a hiking trail through 67 engraved boulders carved by Douglas M. Stahlman in the early 1900s, including Chapel Rock, where he lived and penned his journals. There is also a picnic area for visitors.

A Great Place to meet a Celebrity…

Punxsutawney is home to the world’s most famous weather forecaster, Punxsutawney Phil. The Gobbler’s Knob Visitor Center houses many historical and rare Groundhog Club, Groundhog Day, and Punxsutawney Phil items. Visitors can also meet Punxsutawney Phil and his family in their natural habitat at Phil’s Burrow at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library.

A Great Place to Hike…

Redbank Valley Trail was Pennsylvania’s first Trail of the Year. Hikers and cyclists can explore 51 non-motorized miles from Brookville through New Bethlehem to East Brady beside the scenic Redbank Creek with bridges, tunnels, art, and history along the way.

A Great Place to Picnic…

Clear Creek State Park encompasses more than 1,900 acres and occupies a scenic portion of the Clear Creek Valley. It offers picnicking, hiking, camping, rustic cabins, fishing, swimming, and Clarion River access for kayaking and canoeing.

A Great Place for Architecture…

Historic Brookville’s Walking Tour features 14 stops over a 1/2-mile section of downtown with interpretive signage panels featuring historic locations, topics, and people that helped shape the town.

A Great Place to take in the view…

Beartown Rocks is the “best-kept secret” in Clear Creek State Forest. It is home to massive house-sized boulders with breathtaking scenic views and hiking trails.

A Great Place for History…

Coolspring Power Museum is home to more than 500 historically significant internal combustion engines depicting 150 years of development of Industrial America.

A Great Place for Classic Cars…

Greenberg Cadillac Museum in Brookville hosts the USA’s largest private owned Cadillac Collection from 1905-present.

A Great Place for Art…

Phantastic Phils Art Project in Punxsutawney features whimsical six-foot-tall fiberglass Punxsutawney Phil characters that adorn the streets of the Weather Capital of the World, each an individual work of art.

A Great Place to Learn…

Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center where science and folklore of weather come alive with fun interactive exhibits, theater, and gift shop in a historic building. It is the perfect place for school age children.
