Strattanville Man Charged in Strangulation Assault

STRATTANVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Strattanville man is facing strangulation charges after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat during a domestic altercation.

According to court documents, 43-year-old James Stewart McCoy, III, of Strattanville, was arraigned at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill’s office on the following charges:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges stem from a domestic incident that occurred on May 26 at a residence located on Southern Avenue in Strattanville, Clarion County.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Trooper McGinnis, the Clarion-based State Police station received a domestic violence call around 12:30 p.m. on May 26.

The victim reported that around 12:25 p.m., her live-in boyfriend of two years – James S. McCoy – and she engaged in a verbal argument which escalated into a physical altercation.

During the physical altercation, McCoy reportedly grabbed the victim by the throat/neck, impeding her breathing, and threw her down on the hallway floor, according to the complaint.

The victim suffered a small cut to the chest region, the complaint states.

A criminal complaint against McCoy was filed on May 26.

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail, McCoy was lodged in the Clarion County Jail on July 24.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 .m. on July 30 in front of Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn.
