Swimming Closed for the Year at Dr. Walter Dick Park

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Officials in Brookville Borough have closed swimming for the year at Walter Dick Park.

According to borough officials, swimming will not be permitted at the Walter Dick Park dam for the remainder of the year.

Recent tests revealed that E. coli levels in the swimming area have gone down to an acceptable level; however, no lifeguards are currently available.

According to borough manager Dana Schreckengost, the borough began the summer with five lifeguards.

Nevertheless, after swimming was shut down so long for high E. coli levels in the water in June, some of the lifeguards found other positions, while others are now busy preparing for the start of a new school year.

Schreckengost said E. coli testing will begin again the Tuesday preceding Memorial Day next year for the annual opening, contingent on funding for lifeguards continuing to be a part of the Borough’s budget in 2019.
