Teen Accused of Assaulting Police Officer in Jefferson County

REYNOLDSVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – An 18-year-old Falls Creek man is facing felony aggravated assault and related charges after an incident in which he allegedly resisted arrest and pinned a police officer against a wall.

Court documents indicate that the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department filed the following criminal charges against 18-year-old Kaden Shane Murray of Falls Creek on Monday, October 22:

  • Aggravated Assault, Felony 2
  • Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
  • Sell/Furnish Liquor Etc Minor, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
  • Purch Etc Alcoholic Beverage By A Minor, Summary

According to a criminal complaint, on Friday, October 19, Sgt. Murray of the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department received a phone call from a concerned citizen who saw a SnapChat in which Kaden Murray and two other juveniles were drinking at a residence on Grant Street in Reynoldsville.

Sgt. Murray responded to the residence and knocked on the door, which was opened by a male. Sgt. Murray noted the male had an odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from his person.

Sgt. Murray asked if she could enter the residence and the man gave her permission. The complaint notes that he and three other juveniles were sitting at a dining room table with open containers of 4 Loco and Bud Light in front of them. Sgt. Murray then explained why she was there and asked them all for identification.

According to the complaint, one of the males, later identified as Kaden Murray, refused to identify himself and became belligerent. For her own safety, Sgt. Murray attempted to place Kaden Murray in handcuffs.

Kaden Murray began resisting and pulled away, and Sgt. Murray repeatedly asked him to stop. According to the complaint, a struggle ensued and Kaden Murray pinned Sgt. Murray against the kitchen wall. The struggle continued for several minutes before Sgt. Murray was able to secure him in handcuffs.

Sgt. Murray then called for Officer Winfield to assist.

A short time later, one of the other juveniles gave Sgt. Murray Kaden Murray’s identification.

The juveniles told Sgt. Murray that Kaden Murray furnished the alcohol and that he got it from a known male. Kaden Murray later confirmed this information. The known male has not been charged as of October 23.

Kaden Murray was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, in Magisterial District Judge Douglas Robert Chambers’s office.

He was released on $25,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, in Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office.
