Teen Killed in Jefferson County Crash

Police sirenMCCALMONT TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police say a 16-year-old Punxsutawney girl was killed Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident on Shale Pit Road in McCalmont Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, a 16-year-old Punxsutawney girl lost control of her 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser while traveling west on Shale Pit Road around 12:40 p.m.

The vehicle struck an embankment and went airborne before rotating clockwise and coming to a rest 36 feet from its initial impact.

Police say a 16-year-old female passenger suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Her name has not been released.

A second passenger – 18-year-old Zoey Smith – was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

The driver was not injured.

All occupants of the vehicle were from Punxsutawney.
