Thelma L. (Stewart) Cussins

Cussins, ThelmaThelma L. (Stewart) Cussins, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2015, at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA.

She was born on September 27, 1920, in Elmyra, NY, to the late William M. and Edna Mae (Fitch) Wheeler. In 1940 she married Samuel J. Stewart Sr., who preceded her in death on December 11, 1980.

In 1984 she married Floyd M. Cussins, who preceded her in death on March 22, 1999. Throughout he life she was a homemaker, caregiver, and a farmers wife. She was a dedicated member of the First Church of God in Brookville, PA.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Caroline E. (Harper) Smith, of Reynoldsville, PA; 6 sons, Samuel J. (Judy) Stewart Jr., of Brookville, PA; David L. (Roseann) Stewart of Sigel, PA; Kenneth R. (Barbara) Stewart of Punxsutawney, PA; Jerry H. (Debbie) Stewart of Kersey, PA; Vernon H. (Maryann) Stewart of Punxsutawney, PA; and Howard D. (Trishi) Stewart of Charlotte, NC. She also has 5 step-children; the late Marvin Cussins, whose wife Geraldine survives, of Marienville, PA; the late Jerry Cussins, whose wife Jacque survives, of Marienville, PA; Dan (Carolyn) Cussins of Virginia Beach, VA; Betty Lou (Darl) Kunselman of Oak Ridge, PA; and Gloria (James) Hillard of Vowinkle, PA. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 21 step-grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and 7 step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and two step-sons, she is preceded in death by 3 sisters, Doris Deperto; Mildred Cramer; and Eleanor Ritz; 1 brother, William H. Wheeler; her grandson Kenneth R. Stewart Jr.; and her great-grandson Brandon W. Stewart; she also had lost an infant son, and an infant daughter.

Family and friends will be received from 2 – 7 pm on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the First Church of God, 201 Freedom Lane, Brookville, PA, 15825. A funeral service will be held for her on Monday, September 7, 2015, also at the First Church of God, beginning at 11:00am and officiated by the Rev. Henry Scoff. Interment will follow at the Ringgold Cemetery in Ringgold Twp., Jefferson Co.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home of Brookville PA. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the First Church of God, 201 Freedom Lane, Brookville, PA, 15825.
