Three Injured as Tractor-Trailers Collide on I-80 in Union Township

ambulance-blurry-6UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say around 2:30 a.m. on December 2, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80 East, near mile marker 103.2, in Union Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, 27-year-old Maksym Kornilenko, of Palo Hills, IL, and 56-year-old Mohamed A. Gabalah, of Columbus, OH, were involved in the collision.

Police say Kornilenko was operating a 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer and Gabalah was operating a 2006 Freightliner on I-80 East. Kornilenko attempted to pass the Freightliner and crashed into the back of it.

Both tractors traveled off the north side of the roadway and came to a controlled final rest, according to police.

Both operators and a passenger in Gabalah’s truck suffered injuries of unknown severity and were transported to Penn Highlands Hospital.

The operators were using seat belts; the passenger was not.

Multiple Sandy Township Volunteer Fire Departments and EMS from DuSan and DuBois assisted at the scene.

Kornilenko was charged with a traffic violation.
