Thursday’s HS Baseball Roundup: DuBois Wins Twice; Brockway Victorious

DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – DuBois picked up a pair of wins over Altoona at Showers Field.

The Beavers and Mountain Lions completed a game started Tuesday in Altoona that was suspended by rain with DuBois going out on top, 12-9. DuBois then walked off the Mountain Lions in the regularly scheduled contest, 3-2 in eight innings.

In the completed game, DuBois led 7-5 in the fourth when the game was halted Tuesday.

Thursday, the Beavers saw that lead disappear when Altoona scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-7 lead. But DuBois tied the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth before scoring three times in the seventh to capture the win.

The go-ahead run scored on a balk and two more crossed the plate on a ball hit by Ryan Radaker.

Noah Schneider was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Beavers. Nick LaBrasca added a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while Ryan Pasternak and Radaker also had two RBIs apiece.

Collin Read got the win in relief pitching four innings allowing four unearned runs on six hits.

TJ Becker had a pair of hits including a double and three RBIs for Altoona.

Radaker was the hero in the second game delivering a game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth, one of two hits in the game for him and one of four in the contest for DuBois.

Matt Agosti got the rally started for the Beavers with a double in the eighth before Braden Paulinellie was intentionally walked to get to Radaker.

Radaker was also the winning pitcher throwing an inning of relief for Schneider who went seven innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven.

BROCKWAY 11, CAMERON COUNTY 1, 5 INNINGS

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Tyler Serafini led a trio of Brockway players with multiple-RBI afternoons with three, as the Rovers rolled past visiting Cameron County, 11-1 in five innings.

Serafini, hitting in the ninth hole, was 2-for-3 on the day.

Hunter Antonuccio and Jarrett Esposito each added a pair of RBIs.

Both players were 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Cameron Baka chipped in three hits, an RBI and two runs scored with Matthew Clark adding a pair of hits including a double and Jesse Johnson scoring twice.

Tristian Reed was 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace Cameron County.

Andrew Trunzo got the win going four innings allowing one unearned run on five hits and three walks while striking out three.

Reed suffered the loss lasting 4 ⅔ innings surrendering 11 runs, all earned, on 13 hits and three walks while striking out one.

CLEARFIELD 6, PENNS VALLEY 3

HYDE, Pa. – Jake Sorbera’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth innings broke a 3-all tie, as Clearfield went on to beat Penns Valley, 6-3.

The sac fly was the first of three Bison runs to score in the sixth, as Clearfield scored five times in its final two at-bats to erase a 3-1 deficit going to the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore Eli Glass, who picked up the win in his first varsity start, had his first three hits of the year going 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Clearfield. Tommy Hazel and Ty Bender added doubles.

Glass threw a complete game allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks while striking out three. Fifty-four of his 86 pitches were strikes.

Keith Butts had two singles and two RBIs for Penns Valley with Hunter Homan adding a double.

Luke Snyder took the loss allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out one in six innings.

JOHNSONBURG 8, CURWENSVILLE 3

WILCOX, Pa. – Johnsonburg scored all eight of its runs in its final three at-bats to beat visiting Curwensville 8-3.

The game was scoreless until the Rams plated a run in the fourth. They then added three more in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Neil MacDonald led the offensive charge going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Raubenstrauch was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Johnny Mitchell was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Ben Ames and Ben Freeburg both added doubles, an RBI and a run scored for Johnsonburg.

Avery Francisco was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Curwensville. Bryce Timko added a pair of hits and an RBI.

Ames got the complete-game win allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three.

Noah VonGunden took the loss going 5 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three.
