Traffic Stop in Brookville Leads to Felony Drug, Corruption of Minors Charges for NY Teen

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Multiple charges have been filed against a New York teen who is accused of providing marijuana to and engaging in sexual activity with two teens in Brookville Borough.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 18-year-old James Pearson Young, of Tonawanda, New York.

According to a criminal complaint, around 2:15 a.m. on Monday, August 16, Punxsutawney-based State Police observed a gray sedan on Interstate 80 with dark tint on its front and back windows which did not allow the troopers to see into the vehicle. The troopers then pulled out and caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

The troopers approached the vehicle, they noted a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from it, the complaint notes.

According to the complaint, the driver, identified as James Young, was very nervous with trembling hands and was unable to find insurance papers for the vehicle. The troopers also noted he had dilated pupils and bloodshot eyes. He was then asked to step out of the vehicle.

When asked about any marijuana in his vehicle, Young reportedly admitted he had a vape pen and a small bag of marijuana and had smoked marijuana “a couple of hours ago.” He also gave consent for a search of the vehicle.

Police also spoke to the passengers in the vehicle, identified as two 15-year-old juvenile females. Young was then asked about the juveniles and reportedly told police they were his brother’s friends who he knew from when he had previously resided in Brookville. He told police he had picked up the juveniles and they “just went for a drive,” according to the complaint.

When asked if the juveniles had smoked marijuana with him, Young told police they had smoked his THC vape pen, the complaint notes.

According to the complaint, when police spoke to one of the juveniles, she stated that they had been driving and hanging out for a couple of hours while Young said it had been a shorter time. The juvenile did confirm Young had allowed her to smoke his THC vape pen.

When police continued to question the two juveniles, both reportedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with Young, the complaint indicates.

A search of the vehicle located multiple THC cartridges, a bag of raw marijuana, and various items of drug paraphernalia. There was also a THC vape pen located in the center console of the car, according to the complaint.

The complaint also states Young submitted to standardized field sobriety testing and showed signs of impairment during the test. He was then taken into custody.

During later questioning, Young also reportedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the two juvenile females. He told police he knew they were “younger,” but thought they were both 16.
