Traffic Stop Leads to DUI & Drug Charges for Punsxy Teen

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A traffic stop in Punxsutawney led to charges for a local teen on Christmas Eve.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, troopers conducted a traffic stop at 11:12 p.m. on Friday, December 24, on a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu for a lighting violation at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Elk Run Avenue, in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County.

After observing several visual indicators of suspected drug-related impairment, the driver – a 19-year-old Punxsutawney female – was asked to exit the vehicle. She disclosed to troopers that she was in possession of alcoholic beverages and gave them permission to search the car.

The search yielded several items of drug paraphernalia and alcoholic beverages.

After conducting a field sobriety test, the teen was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

The investigation is ongoing.
