Traffic Stop Leads to High Speed Pursuit Through Punxsutawney

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Police say what started off as a traffic stop led to a high speed pursuit through Punxsutawney on Sunday.

Around 11:55 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, Punxsutawney-based State Police attempted to initiated a traffic stop on a white Hyundai Elantra on Orchard Avenue in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County.

Police say the vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed and committed several traffic violations in an attempt to flee from law enforcement.

According to police, after the pursuit ensued, the vehicle stopped on Valley Road, and the two male occupants fled on foot.

Police say the driver, identified, as 19-year-old Logan Spade, of Punxsutawney, was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit and was also found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The other occupant was identified as a known 20-year-old DuBois man.

The incident remains under investigation.

Court documents indicate the following charges were filed against Spade through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on Monday, May 4:

– Marijuana-Small Amount Personal Use, Misdemeanor
– Improperly Display Plate, Summary
– Drive Unregistered Vehicle, Summary
– Registration Card Not Signed, Summary
– Fail To Carry Registration, Summary
– Display Plate Card In Improper Vehicle, Summary
– Driving Without A License, Summary
– Disregard Traffic Lane (Single), Summary
– Duties At Stop Sign, Summary (four counts)
– Turning Movements And Required Signals, Summary (two counts)

Unable to post $80,000.00 monetary bail, Spade was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on May 14, with Judge Mizerock presiding.

No charges have been filed against the second occupant of the vehicle as of Tuesday, May 5.
