Police Release Details on Two-Car Crash on Route 36

ROSE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 1:50 p.m. on August 20, a two-car accident occurred on State Route 36, at its intersection with Sheep Farm Road, in Rose Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 40-year-old Eric Nguyen, of Sachise, TX, and 48-year-old Douglas S. Lucas, of Brookville, were involved in the collision.

This crash happened as Nguyen proceeded to pass multiple vehicles with his 2014 Chevrolet Impala in a no passing zone.

Nguyen passed two vehicles which were subsequently braking for the lead vehicle (a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Lucas) which was also braking and indicating a left turn with an activated left turn signal, police say.

As Nguyen was illegally passing on the left side and approaching the Pontiac, Lucas proceeded to turn left and was subsequently side swiped by Nguyen, according to police.

The Impala driven by Nguyen continued forward traveling off the east shoulder of SR 36 and abruptly entered a ditch where it came to final rest facing south.

The Pontiac was disabled in the northbound traveling lane of SR 36 also facing south.

Both drivers and two passengers in Lucas’ car, 19-year-old Jessica M. Chandler and a two-year-old male, both of Strattanville, were using seat belts and were not injured.

Nguyen was charged with a traffic violation.

Pine Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department personnel, McPherson Towing, and Kelly Chrysler Towing assisted at the scene.
