Two Escape Injury in Car vs. Bear Collision on I-80

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say a one-vehicle collision involving a bear occurred December 2 at 12:40 a.m. on Interstate 80 in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, the crash occurred as Nicole C. Mazzella, 26, of Lemoyne, was traveling east bound on I-80.

A bear allegedly ran in front of Mazella’s 2014 Ford Fusion and was struck by the front left corner of the vehicle.

Police say Mazzella and her passenger – Ryan P. Simmons, 30, of Green Bay, WI – were both wearing seat belts and escaped injury.

The Ford Fusion sustained disabling damage to the front end.
