Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 12:21 a.m. on July 17, Punxsutawney-based State Police were dispatched to a residence on US 322 in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County, for a report of a drug overdose.

At the scene, police made contact with Tori Nicole Shaffer who allegedly stated she walked into the residence and found an unknown man overdosed on the couch. She reported she administered CPR, and the man then got off the couch and ran into the woods.

According to the complaint, Punxsutawney-based State Police located the man in the woods with the assistance of DuBois-based State Police, and he then identified himself as Roger Joseph Mikulec.

The complaint states Shaffer then admitted to police that Mikulec was her boyfriend.

When police located Mikulec, they also found a wooden box 25 yards away that contained drug paraphernalia, including a copper dish with suspected drug residue, a silver mesh strainer, two glass vials, silver forceps, one silver metal half teaspoon with suspected drug residue, and a glass tray. According to the complaint, inside the residence, on the couch, police located two stamp bags of suspected heroin, one that was full and another than was empty.

Mikulec was then interviewed in the ambulance at the scene. The complaint states Mikulec admitted the drugs and drug paraphernalia belonged to him.

Following the interview, Mikulec was transported to Brookville Hospital by Jefferson County EMS.

Police then interviewed Shaffer at the scene. According to the complaint, it was then discovered that Shaffer and Mikulec did not have permission to be at the property or inside of the residence.

Shaffer allegedly told police that Mikulec was “dumping” his belongings onto the property.

The complaint notes police observed a large pile of hubcaps lying outside the residence. Shaffer allegedly admitted she and Mikulec had dumped the hubcaps there, according to the complaint. She also stated Mikulec had gained entry into the residence to store his personal belongings.

Police then contacted the property owner. The complaint states the owner explained he did not know Mikulec or Shaffer and did not give permission for them to be in the residence.

The charges were filed against Mikulec and Shaffer through Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office on August 3.
