Two People Face Charges for Scuffle at Wedding Reception in Oliver Township

OLIVER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Criminal charges have been filed against two individuals who were reportedly involved in a scuffle at a wedding reception earlier this year.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 27-year-old Douglas Raymond Anderson, of Brookville, and 27-year-old Scott Allen Walter, of Timblin.

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:10 p.m. on June 26, Punxsutawney-based State Police responded to a location on Bodenhorn Road in Oliver Township, Jefferson County, for a report of a physical altercation involving six to eight people at a wedding reception, including one individual who reportedly suffered facial injuries.

At the scene, police conducted several interviews and established that the altercation had occurred between two men identified as Douglas Anderson and Scott Walter.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the physical altercation between the two men was a direct result of Walter slapping a known female victim (the bride hosting the event) across the face after she attempted to prevent him from driving his vehicle from the scene while intoxicated, according to the complaint.

Police then spoke to the female victim who reported that Walter had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages and was visibly intoxicated at the wedding reception. The victim told police she did not feel Walter was capable of safely operating his vehicle and she asked him several times to call for a ride while attempting to take his keys from him. She reported Walter then became angry and eventually slapped her across the face.

When police spoke to Walter, he reportedly indicated he had been “essentially attacked at random” by several individuals after walking out of the building at the reception, the complaint notes.

Walter did admit that he was told by several people “you’re not leaving,” the complaint states.

According to the complaint, police noted Walter had minor facial injuries, including dried blood beneath his nostrils as well as red markings on his cheeks and a minor cut above his left eyebrow.

Police also spoke with Anderson, who indicated he stepped outside of the building at the reception after hearing about the argument outside. He reported he saw an altercation going on between the bride/female victim, the groom, and an individual he did not know, later identified as Walter, the complaint states.

Anderson told police he approached the individual and stepped in between them. He indicated the situation then “became heated” and he struck Walter. He also told police that Walter struck him back and the two of them then wrestled around on the ground and fought for a short time before being separated, according to the complaint.

The following charges were filed against Anderson and Walter through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on November 17:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on January 4, 2022, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
