Car Crashes into Tree on Route 36, Two People Injured

ELDRED TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Marienville-based State Police say around 6:30 p.m. on September 4, a two-vehicle accident occurred on State Route 36, approximately one mile south of Sigel, in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, an unidentified dark-colored SUV was traveling southbound on SR 36 and a 2004 Buick Rainier, driven by 62-year-old Peter Lackey, of Pittsburgh, was traveling northbound.

The SUV crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane of SR 36. Lackey swerved off the eastern side of the roadway in an attempt to avoid contact with the SUV, police say.

Lackey then re-entered the roadway and traveled across both travel lanes. His Buick then traveled off the western side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The SUV fled the area and continued traveling southbound on SR 36, according to police.

Lackey and a passenger, 53-year-old Madeleine Amman, also of Pittsburgh, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Brookville Area Hospital via Jefferson County EMS.

The Buick Rainier sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by East Main Street Towing.

No other details were provided.
