UPDATE: Several Pets Die in Jefferson County House Fire, Investigation Continues

CORSICA BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – State police say the fire that gutted a residence in Corsica is still under investigation.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, Chief Don Smith of the Corsica Volunteer Fire Company requested assistance from a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal in determining the origin and cause of the fire that destroyed a two-story residence at 670 Main Street in Corsica Borough.

Police say two occupants were home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury, as did four dogs. However, several other pets died as a result of the fire.

According to police, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and the investigation is ongoing.

Police also note two vehicles, a 2007 Dodge and a 2006 Jeep, and a neighboring home were also damaged.

The total loss is estimated at over $140,000.00.
