Velma M. (Pifer) Reiter

Velma M. (Pifer) Reiter, 99, of Luthersburg, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the DuBois Nursing Home.

She was born April 14, 1918, in Ramsaytown to the late Robert and Annie (Carr) Pifer.

On May 29, 1941, she married William L. “Roy” Reiter who preceded her in death on February 22, 1997.

Velma was known for her baked beans. She loved to watch and listen to sports, especially all Pittsburgh teams, and she was an avid Bingo player. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Luthersburg.

Velma is survived by her son-in-law, John “Jack” Thompson; three grandchildren, Gwen (Aaron) Carmack, John M. (Mozella) Tickner, and James Thompson (Francis Yeh); and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Robert and Sherry DeBoer, and Elton and Ruth Himes who lovingly helped care for her over the years.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Patricia Tickner and Linda Thompson, and her siblings, Viola Maloney, Iva Clark, Minnie Himes, Raymond Pifer, and Dorothy DeBoer.

Friends and family will be received Monday, October 16th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc. in DuBois.

The funeral service will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Luthersburg at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17th with Pastor Jennifer Gonsalves officiating.

Burial will follow at the Luthersburg Union Cemetery.
