WEATHER ALERT: Flood Watch Issued for Jefferson County

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A Flood Watch has been issued for Jefferson County and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued the following Flood Watch at 3:13 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018:

…Heavy rainfall expected through the weekend…

.Many locations received in excess of two inches of rainfall last weekend. The ground has had little time to recover from this
amount of rain, and many locations are already saturated. Some locations received between one and two inches of rain today. With an additional two to three inches of rainfall possible through Sunday afternoon, flooding will be a possibility across the forecast area.

The Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of west-central and, east-central Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, including the following areas, in western Maryland, Garrett. In east central Ohio, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble, and Tuscarawas. In Pennsylvania, Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Fayette, Fayette Ridges, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington, Westmoreland, and Westmoreland Ridges. In West Virginia, Brooke, Eastern Preston, Eastern Tucker, Hancock, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Ridges of Eastern Monongalia and Northwestern Preston, Western Tucker, and Wetzel.

* Through Sunday evening

* Although rainfall amounts are expected to be light tonight, rainfall of 1.5 to 3.0 inches is possible through the weekend.

* The ground is very saturated and water levels in local streams remain high.


A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
