The National Weather Service issued the following Urgent Winter Weather Message at 6:56 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016:

…FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EST THIS EVENING…

* ICE ACCUMULATION…GLAZE TO A TENTH OF AN INCH…ESPECIALLY ON ELEVATED SURFACES.

* ICE ENDING…TEMPERATURES WILL SLOWLY WARM AND SHOWERS WILL END AROUND 9PM.

* IMPACTS…LIGHT AMOUNTS OF ICE MAY MAKE ROADS AND SIDEWALKS HAZARDOUS. USE EXTREME CAUTION AS AREAS THAT LOOK WET MAY BE ICED OVER.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN OR FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS. SLOW DOWN AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
