The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued the following urgent Winter Weather Message at 4:45 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016:

…LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST FRIDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PITTSBURGH HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST FRIDAY.

…LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING…

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…3 TO 5 INCHES.

* TIMING…LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL CONTINUE TODAY. HEAVIER BANDS ARE EXPECTED THIS MORNING.

* IMPACTS…THE HEAVY SNOW WILL CREATE SNOW COVERED ROADS AND PRODUCE SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES.

* WIND…WEST 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE-EFFECT SNOW IS FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP SEVERAL INCHES IN LOCALIZED AREAS.
