William O. “Bill” Smith

1714534_profile_picWilliam O. “Bill” Smith, 85, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, December 6, 2015, at his home.

He was born April 1, 1930, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Marion E. (Patrick) and Clarence S. Smith.

On October 6, 1951, he married Lois L. (Gromley) Smith, who preceded him in death on December 12, 2009.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He worked for BFG in Punxsutawney for sixteen years and retired as a custodian at the West End School with over twenty-two years of service.

He enjoyed working on puzzles, woodcarving, playing cards, but most of all he enjoyed helping others with anything that needed done.

Surviving relatives include four sons and four daughters, Richard E. Smith of Humble, Texas, Daniel R. Smith and wife Joy of Chambersville, PA, John E. Smith and wife Sandy of Punxsutawney, Arthur V. Smith and wife Kelly of Rochester Mills, PA, Wilma Holmes of Independence, Missouri, Helen Long and husband Tom of Rossiter, PA, Roberta Behm and husband Wade of Wasilla, Alaska, and Ruth Rummerfield and husband Jerry of Punxsutawney; twenty three grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a sister Virginia Esposito of Punxsutawney; and a brother, Thomas L. Smith of Punxsutawney.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Catherine Ellenberger and Cloyd “Gene” Smith.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Earl Flick officiating.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Family Hospice, American Cancer Society, or to the Donors’ Choice.
