William P. ‘Bill’ Craig, 85, of 1642 Bald Eagle St. Sligo, died at 9 PM Sunday May 29, 2016 at his home from a sudden illness.
Born in Callensburg on January 1, 1931, he was the son of Roy W. ‘Bus’ and Loretta K. Stover Craig.
Bill married Doris M. Grant on January 25, 1952 and she died on April 9, 1988.
Bill was a Gradall operator for the former Bracken Construction Co. for more than 30 years and he belonged to the Operating Engineers Local #66 of Pittsburgh.
He was a Methodist.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially carrying on the tradition of making homemade apple butter with the Craig family copper kettle and rattling off jingles, rhymes and limericks.
He is survived by four daughters; Kathy Mazzoni and fiancee Jack Paulden of Clarion, Libby Miller of Rimersburg, Lori Weeter of Cranberry, and Kelly DiGiammarino and husband Kevin of Sligo, two sons and their wives; Brent and Sherry Craig of Callensburg and Jason and Tracy Craig of Clarion, 17 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren.
Bill is also survived by four sisters; Becky Harkless of Callensburg, Dean Baun of Dubois, Jackie Meier of Callensburg, and Sally Hosey and husband Dan of Lexington, NC, a brother; Donald ‘Chirp’ Craig of Sligo, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter; Jamie Yoder, a grandson; Adam Weeter, a son-in-law; Rick Miller, sisters; Lois Stahlman and Henrietta Palaggo and a brother; Roy ‘Toe’ Craig.
Bill’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday June 1, 2016 at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Thursday June 2, 2016 from the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, retired Methodist minister officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery. Bill’s family suggests memorials be made to yhe Adam Weeter Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Farmers National Bank 14003 Rt. 208 Marble, PA 16334.
