Women’s Wellness Event Slated for May 24

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) — Physical, mental and nutritional well-being for women will be covered during “An Evening of Women’s Wellness” at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 24, at the Punxsutawney Country Club.

The event is being hosted by and benefitting the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center (PWDC).

The two-hour event will feature vendors, guest speakers, and free samples dealing with such topics as nutrition, massage therapy, mental health, dermatology, medicinal, and culinary herbs as well as natural juices, yoga, essential oils, and traditional foods.

While it may seem a bit odd for a discovery center dedicated to weather to be hosting an event on women’s wellness, PWDC Director Marlene Lellock said the origins of the idea came from a discussion about how weather affects health.

“Our fundraising committee was discussing different ideas and we drifted off topic to lament how cloudy, cold, damp days affect us physically and mentally,” Lellock said. “From there, we built the whole idea of an event to highlight women’s wellness.”

Presenters include Adrienne Goss speaking about essential oil wellness and yoga; Jeril Goss highlighting nutrition for women; Tina Lewis, licensed psychologist presenting “Being the Calm in the Storm of the Day”; Holli Polito, LMT, presenting information about massage therapy; Lisa Fairman Pfingstler, MD, highlighting dermatology and cosmetic options for skin; and Rusty Orner of Quiet Creek Herb Farm speaking about medicinal and culinary herbs.

Additional vendors include Lisa Kephart, LMT, doing “at table” massage, Amy Taladay, a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, taking blood pressures and doing a detox screening, and Jadie Smith with natural juices.

Guests will be treated to healthy hors d’oeuvres, including Caprese salad on a skewer, stuffed mushrooms, vegetables and hummus, cucumber sandwiches, and fruit-infused waters.

Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening.

Tickets for the event are $20.00 per person and are on sale online at weatherdiscovery.org; at PWDC (call 814-938-1000 to order by telephone); Laska’s Pizza in Punxsutawney; Santosha Yoga in Punxsutawney; and Quiet Creek Herb Farm. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

Proceeds will benefit PWDC’s educational programming.
